Registered Massage Therapy

My approach to Massage Therapy is based on current scientific evidence and is informed by the Biopsychosocial (BPS) lens of health care.  We know that the body heals itself so the massage therapists’ role is to create the space and provide the touch-based techniques that support healing and recovery. Every body is different and responds to different types of massage, so my job is to work with you to find the treatment that is right for your condition and supports you in reaching your healthcare goals. I am trained to use many techniques and approaches including: guided body awareness, myofascial release, joint mobilizations, Swedish, deep tissue, acupressure, Shiatsu, Indian Head Massage, hydrotherapy and many more. To continue the recovery process I often work with patients to design homework or changes to daily activities that can support their wellbeing even after they leave my treatment room. I also believe health Care is a team sport, so if I believe my patients’ should be assessed and/or diagnosed by a Physician or physiotherapist or treated my another kind of allied healthcare practitioner, I am always willing to make a recommendation to ensure you get the care you need.

Body Awareness Treatments

I am passionate about increasing body awareness and interoception as a way to improve your relationship with your body to prevent future pain and discomfort. By turning your attention inward to your bodily sensations you have an opportunity to create understanding as well as new relationships and reactions to your physical experience. Many of my clients have experienced reductions in pain and improved function in areas with previous chronic discomfort.

If deepening your relationship with your sensations and held patterns of tension is of interest, I offer sessions geared specifically for this purpose. Rather than a time to space-out and disconnect, they are a time to slow down and ‘zone-in’, bringing awareness to yourself for extended periods of time. I have personally felt the benefits of these techniques and would love to share them with you. You can read more about my training in this work here.
